History Founded in the late 1800s by Clark Thompson, Wells was a regional train and grain-shipping center. Through the years, the Wells area has been home to many well-known bands and orchestras, including the many groups led by Harry Gillam.
Annual Celebrations The Wells Area Chamber of Commerce hopes you enjoy "Wells Kernel Days" held on the third weekend in August, celebrating the community’s agricultural base. Go on a sleigh ride as the Holiday Season begins with our winter festival, "Wells Does it Bright," or browse through hundreds of booths of merchandise at the largest Sportsman Show in Southern Minnesota held on the third weekend in March.
Recreation & Entertainment No matter what type of recreation or entertainment you prefer, Wells offers opportunities throughout the year. Attend a community theatre or music production, a first-run movie at the recently renovated Flame Theatre or participate in a variety of youth and adult recreation programs. You may also enjoy 9 holes at the Wells Golf Club.
Housing Wells offers the opportunity to come home to a small town. Quiet, tree-lined neighborhoods embrace homes dating back more than a century, while new housing and lots are available to those who desire more contemporary features. Short commutes to larger employment centers and telecommuting via the Internet allow you more time for quality living and the things that matter most.
Central Business District Small town hospitality and friendly merchants are ready to assist you at the variety of proprietor-owned stores that line Broadway Avenue, the community’s main shopping center. Newcomers always comment on the "Active Mainstreet". Historic Broadway Avenue serves as the community’s "Smile".
Medical Facilities We are proud of our two fine medical clinics, the Wells Clinic-Mayo Health System and the United Clinic of Faribault County. Wells’ medical needs are also served by Independent Therapy Services, Wells Eye Clinic-Mayo Health Systems, Vision Plus, Wells Family Dental, Wells Chiropractic Clinic and Magnuson Chiropractic Center. Parkview Care Center and The Shepherd’s Inn provide senior care.
Education Wells is located on the east side of Faribault County, it is surrounded by farm sites and other rural communities. Together we support and take pride in the United South Central School District.
